A middle school teacher rewrites hundreds of ancient stories
Some consider Huang Qiaoyan to be the Chinese equivalent of the German Brothers Grimm. That is because the middle school teacher in Guangdong province's Dongguan has compiled more than 200 Chinese fairy tales over the past seven years to make them accessible to children.
The idea came to her when she was disappointed by a book of Chinese folk stories she borrowed from the library 13 years ago. "The book was simple and commonplace," she recalled." And the stories were dry. They were far from interesting. I pored over all kinds of texts, took notes and jotted down the most attractive parts of different versions, felt them with my heart and tried to put the pieces together,"
Huang wrote almost all of the story of Cang Jie Creates Chinese Characters because she was not satisfied with the materials she had. She loved the original words , from Tang Dynasty (618-907). But the ancient Chinese words are not easily understood by children.
Huang has collected over 10,000 stories and selected about 300 of the best known that are suitable for children and rich in spiritual meaning. She won the 2009 Bing Xin Children's Literature Award for an original fairy tale she created.

Is it suitable for colleges and universities to charge a lost-and-found fee?
The other day, a college in Sichuan Province established a lost-and-found fee, and demanded that students who recover lost items pay an amount of money to thank and award people who pick up and give back them, ranging from 5 yuan to 20 yuan. This news drew much attention on the Internet. And immediately, the netizens discussed about the topic that whether it’s encouraging honest behavior or pollute our traditional virtues of returning the lost money.
Actually, charging for lost-and-found isn’t something of a novelty, lots of colleges have explored such ways. Besides, this college didn’t force everyone to do that, but elastically, the college would reward honest deeds if the owners were unwilling to pay. Additionally, the intentions of this policy are also acceptable. From one perspective, it can motivate students to be honest and nurture a good atmosphere on campus by giving material award. From another perspective, it can remind students that it’s time they should get rid of the bad habit of carelessness. What matters most is that such a measure is legal to some extent. Chinese Property Law clearly stipulates that, “when a right holder is receiving lost items, he should pay the finder or related departments necessary fees to help take care of the lost”, that is to say, the finder has the right to obtain necessary compensation.
Now that this policy can be understandable in both reason and law, why did it give rise to arguments and even objection? Thinking in details, here are some reasons.
On one hand, returning money back is a traditional Chinese virtue, a shining quality in the public’s mind. It’s natural to return things back to the owner. Whether be rewarded or not, it’s a moral standard. On the other hand, although the amount of the fee isn’t big, the system and standard should be clear and fair. In what situation should finders be rewarded with 5 yuan, 10 yuan, and 20 yuan? Are the conditions, the standards, the rewarded targets and the rewarding ways known publicly? Have suggestions and advice been sought from the teachers and students? All these seem to be minor matters, while it, effectively, reflects the college’s management philosophy.

Jay Chou, the actor and ‘king of Asian Pop’ that outsells Madonna and Beyonce
Jay Chou is no stranger to Western audiences, as a Hollywood actor and he is also an award-winning singer-songwriter, with musical style that is influenced by rock hip hop and blues. His music career is so successful that he has sold more than 30 million albums, his music has been downloaded more times than Maonna, Rihanna and Eminem.
If that is not impressive enough, Chou-dubbed the “King of Asian Pop”-broke 11 Australian musical performance records with his 2009 concert in Sydney. Chou says his concerts are “all about nostalgia and old school tracks”, which his fans got to experience first-hand during his first ever concert in Europe at the Wembley Arena in London.
Chou also explains that concerts give him a lot of ideas for music. One such example is a love song from his forthcoming album, which is due to be released later this year or early next, created after a show in China. But what Chou finds really touching is when his early fans bring their children to his concerts. This is his “musical heritage being passed on from one generation to another” and along with it, he hopes,“positive energy” too.

China launched its first cargo spacecraft, Tianzhou-1, into space successfully
This Thursday evening, China launched its first cargo spacecraft, Tianzhou-1, into space successfully, which was regarded as a crucial step to build our own space station around 2022.
Lifted by a Long March-7 Y2 carrier rocket, Tianzhou-1 roared into the air from the Wenchang Space Launch Center in south China’s Hainan Province.
In space, the cargo ship will not only provide fuel and other supplies for the Tiangong-2 space lab in active service through docking with it but conduct some space experiments before returning to Earth.
China aims to build a permanent space station that is expected to work for at least 10 years, so the debut of the cargo ship is significant, because of its specific role of a courier to help maintain the space station.
As we imagine, without a cargo transportation system, the station would suffer from the shortage of energy and supplies, causing it to return to Earth ahead of the designated time.
